My Friday Thought: You don’t become a diverse organisation by staying the way you are. You become one by accepting you don’t have it right and be willing to change the way you recruit and operate. You become a diverse organisation by listening to the reasons why people don’t join you and acting on that.

What is diversity within a organisation?

A diverse organisation to me is a mix of visible and not differences, typically psychological safe for people to bring their authentic selfs to work. Where difference is embraced so it is understood.

This means all genders of the spectrum which will bring a rounded view of what is needed for success. A mix of gender without different shades of skin, isn't bring the sadly still persistent difficulties that some have to overcome to survive. Cultural and religious beliefs open an organisation to embracing the background and experiences of all. These elements are somewhat easier to factor in, but what about the ages, educational background, parents, careers, neurodiverse and so many more representation within an organisation.

Do you/your organisation consider how you embrace and represent how you support the differences that these types of people bring. Especially the ones which may push you to consider changing your standard operating procedures. If you can only support [enter here] on flexibility then, are you real an organisation that embraces others, or are you simply flexible to the needs that are easy to meet!
